Representative Baker is an attorney in private practice in Brandon, Mississippi. He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1987, and is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of Mississippi, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member and past president of the Rankin County Bar Association and the Rankin County Rotary Club and formerly served on the Rankin County Republican Executive Committee.  Representative Baker previously served as the prosecutor for the City of Brandon and the municipal judge for the Town of Pelahatchie and currently serves as the board attorney for the City of Brandon and the Town of Puckett. Representative Baker was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2004.  Representative Baker served as the Republican Leader in House from 2008-2012.  He is the Chairman of the House Judiciary En Banc and Judiciary A Committees, and is a member of the Transportation, Banking, Investigate State Offices, and Appropriations committees. In conjunction with his duties as Chairman of the Judiciary En Banc and Judiciary A Committees, Representative Baker  was appointed by Speaker Gunn as a member of the Uniform Laws Commission, the Mississippi Home Corporation Oversight Committee and the Mississippi Tort Claims Board.  Recognitions:  the 2012 U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform State Legislative Achievement Award; the 2012-2013 Champion for Children Award from Prevent Child Abuse Mississippi; the Mississippi Realtors Outstanding House Legislator Award for 2013; the Home Builders Association of Mississippi 2014 Legislator of the Year; and the 2015 Missisisppi Municipal League Friend of Mississippi Legislative Award.  Mark has also received the endorsements of numerous groups and associations including the National Rifle Association with which he has consistently maintained an A+ rating.

Representative Baker was born on May 13, 1962 and is married to the former Lady Collins, an English teacher at Brandon high school. They have one son, Chase, who is a freshman at Ole Miss. The Bakers are members of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.
